Spring has finally arrived in Shetland, marking the beginning of the tourist season. This means that once again, my studio doors have opened for the 2024 season, and I’ve already welcomed visitors from across the world.
A lot of preparation goes into opening my studio doors for the season, combined with a range of special commissions and securing new stockists, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio creating.
In this blog post, I’d like to share some of my recent news, whilst also showcasing some of the places you can find my artwork, both in Shetland and further afield.
North Link MV Hrossey Exhibition
I was humbled when the North Link ferries contacted me asking if I would like to create a series of Resin Seascape pieces to be displayed on board their boat.
If you're travelling to Shetland on the North Link, specifically on the MV Hrossey; my artwork is showcased onboard. In The Magnus Lounge Restaurant, I have 10 large resin seascapes on display, while 6 mixed media pieces adorn the passage. These Shetland Inspired Seascape pieces give travellers a taste of what’s waiting for them on arrival.
Just this week, a customer from Cornwall who travelled to Shetland on the North Link’s MV Hrossey visited my studio, having spotted a piece he liked onboard. I've happily agreed to create a similar piece for him.
If you’ve not got a trip planned to Shetland, similar pieces to those displayed on North Link can be viewed in my Resin Seascape collection on my website.
Island Stockists | Shetland, Iona & Colonsay
Year on year, I’m delighted to add to my list of new stockists. New for 2024, I'm thrilled to announce the addition of the Iona Heritage Centre to my list of suppliers. They've recently received a selection of beach-inspired jewellery and small gifts, making them another wonderful island stockist, joining the Old Waiting Room Gallery on the Island of Colonsay.
Closer to home, I recently visited Unst to deliver a box of beach items to the Boat Haven and buttons/stitch markers to the Unst Heritage Centre, both of which opened their doors on May 1st.
Buttons are a popular piece on my website, and can be posted worldwide.

Shetland TV Series
In other exciting news, ITV Shetland, the producers of the Shetland TV series, recently reached out to me expressing interest in featuring my circular resin seascapes on set for series 9. I’m quietly hoping they appear in Ruth Cader’s new island home!
Whilst the release date is still to be confirmed, I eagerly anticipate seeing my artwork showcased on national television!
Sarah Kay Studio
Located on the hill overlooking Scalloway, my studio and shop are open to visitors, showcasing my collection of Shetland artwork, jewellery, prints, and gifts, all of which are available for purchase.
Rated a four-star attraction by Visit Scotland, visitors can also wander through my hillside garden and polycrub, where a variety of locally grown Shetland species thrive - it also boasts spectacular views of Scalloway Castle and the islands beyond.
My studio, shop and garden are open to visitors between May to September on Monday, Wednesday & Friday between 10am - 3pm. I'm happy to also open by arrangement outside of set times, please just get in touch. Find out more.
For those of you who are reading this from further afield, my website is always open to visitors and my Shetland Artwork and gifts can be posted globally.
